In Spain, two high-speed trains carrying about 500 passengers collided head-on, resulting in at least 21 deaths and more than 100 injuries. As of now, no Korean nationals have been reported among the victims.


According to Reuters and other sources on January 18 (local time), the accident occurred at around 6:40 p.m. in Cordoba Province, southern Spain, when two trains collided head-on.


A train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed near Adamuz and crashed into an oncoming train. Spanish police have provisionally reported 21 fatalities. State broadcaster RTVE reported that the number of injured has reached 100.


As a result of the accident, rail service between Madrid and Andalusia has been suspended. There have been no reports of Korean casualties related to the accident so far.


An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "The local embassy is continuously checking for any Korean victims, and as of now, there have been no reports or confirmations of Korean nationals being affected."
