The National Tax Service has established a dedicated organization, the 'AI Innovation Officer,' which will be responsible for planning, developing, and validating artificial intelligence (AI) services for national tax administration.

On January 19, the National Tax Service announced that it had held a plaque ceremony to mark the launch of the 'AI Innovation Officer.'

This organizational launch formalizes the AI Innovation Task Force, which had previously operated on a temporary basis. As a leading government agency in AI, this move aims to accelerate the national agenda of realizing the 'world's best AI-enabled democratic government.'

The AI Innovation Officer's office within the National Tax Service is composed of a total of seven teams and 31 members under the Office of Information Management. Going forward, it will be responsible for planning, developing, and validating AI services, managing data quality, and driving the 'K-AI Tax Administration Leap Forward.'

In particular, by June this year, the National Tax Service plans to establish a comprehensive AI national tax administration roadmap through the Information System Master Plan (ISMP) project, while making every effort to secure budget and build AI infrastructure at an early stage.

Moving forward, the AI Innovation Officer's office will actively gather public feedback through the Future Innovation Promotion Group and the National Tax Administration Reform Committee, and will sequentially introduce high-impact services such as 'generative AI chatbot' and 'generative AI phone consultation' that the public can tangibly experience.

Kwanghyun Lim, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, stated, "Through the AI transformation, we must provide the highest level of taxpayer services and realize tax justice," and added, "Centering on the AI Innovation Officer's office, please bring together all the systems, data, and organizational know-how to build the best AI-based national tax administration model."
