According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on January 19, the Gwangju City Arboretum will host the plant specimen exhibition under the theme "A Transparent Winter Embracing Spring" at the Visitor Center from January 20 to March 1. This exhibition has been organized together with Wando Arboretum to celebrate the registration of Gwangju City Arboretum as a public arboretum.

The exhibition was planned by the City Arboretum, and the specimens were directly collected and produced by Wando Arboretum. A total of 36 specimens will be displayed, including 20 woody plant specimens such as dogwood and 16 herbaceous plant specimens such as Agastache rugosa. The specimens were crafted in frame form using solidium and resin crafting techniques, enhancing their preservation so that the structures of flowers and leaves can be clearly observed.

The exhibition visually depicts the cycle of nature by capturing the moment of blooming flowers in transparent specimens. The focus is on conveying both the archival and artistic value of the plants.

Visitors can view the exhibition from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on Mondays when the arboretum is closed. Admission is free.

Kim Heeseok, Director of the Arboretum and Garden Office, stated, "We organized this exhibition to inform citizens about the diversity and value of plants in celebration of the registration of Gwangju’s first public arboretum," adding, "I hope visitors will feel the warmth of spring and the importance of tree genetic resources through the exhibition."

Meanwhile, last month, Gwangju City Arboretum was registered as the first public arboretum in Gwangju and the 38th nationwide under the "Act on the Creation and Promotion of Arboretums and Gardens." With this registration, the City Arboretum plans to expand green public services and strengthen its roles in the preservation and management of tree genetic resources, as well as in exhibition, research, and educational activities.

During the exhibition period, special winter break programs will also be offered. Until February 13, four programs will be available for families with children aged 6 to 10: "Tracking Wildlife by Traces," "Creating My Own Succulent Garden," "Smart Rosette," and "Messages with Winter Trees."
