Support for a Wide Range of Activities
From Hobby Groups to Practicing Carbon Neutrality
Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 19 that it will be accepting applications for the "Saenghwal-Sachon Apartment Community Revitalization Project," aimed at spreading community culture in apartment complexes and other residential communities, until February 27.
"Saenghwal-Sachon" refers to an apartment community that shares living spaces. The purpose of this project is to enable residents living in the same complex to naturally meet and interact through everyday interests, restore a sense of community, resolve various conflicts, and ultimately improve quality of life.
This year, the support program is divided into three categories-Neighborhood Meet-up, Local Life, and Thematic Project-so that residents can participate in stages, from small gatherings to activities involving the entire complex.
The "Neighborhood Meet-up" category targets small gatherings of at least three residents living in the same complex. Each group will receive an activity fund of 500,000 won to help them start light meetings and exchanges centered around hobbies or shared interests.
The "Local Life" category supports activities where residents themselves create changes in their complex based on communication and harmony. Last year, this included support for resident sports festivals, Chuseok eve celebrations, and children's environmental drawing contests. Resident groups consisting of 20 or more people living in the same complex are eligible to apply. Support is provided in stages: 10 million won in the first year, 7 million won in the second year, and 5 million won in the third year.
The "Thematic Project" category is open to resident representative councils or resident groups of 20 or more people living in the same complex. Activities can focus on common tasks such as practicing carbon neutrality or solving everyday problems within the complex. Each group will receive an activity fund of 5 million won.
To enhance resident participation and accountability, the city requires that at least 5% of the funding for the "Local Life" and "Thematic Project" categories be self-funded by the applicants.
Resident groups wishing to participate can download the application form from the notice board on the Gwangmyeong City Hall website or the Gwangmyeong City Village Autonomy Center website, complete it, and submit it by email, mail, or in person. Applications can also be submitted by visiting the Village Autonomy Center at the Open Citizen Hall.
Apartment complexes wishing to take part in the project must receive preliminary consulting from the Village Autonomy Center before applying to ensure effective project management. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Village Autonomy Center.
Park Seungwon, Mayor of Gwangmyeong City, said, "Through this project, I hope apartment complexes will become more than just residential spaces and transform into communities where neighbors build relationships and grow together. We will continue to support resident-led community activities so that they contribute to the sustainable growth of our city."
