Seongdong District Introduces "Childbirth Support Grant for Households with Disabilities"… 1 Million Won Per Newborn

A Total of 2.2 Million Won Available When Combined with Seoul City Grant

Seongdong District in Seoul (Mayor Jung Wonoh) announced on January 19 that it will begin providing a "Childbirth Support Grant for Households with Disabilities" this year to expand financial assistance for parents with disabilities during childbirth and childrearing.

Households with disabilities often face greater financial burdens than non-disabled households due to higher medical and caregiving costs during pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. In response, the district has introduced this new grant to alleviate the economic pressures faced by families with disabilities.

The "Childbirth Support Grant for Households with Disabilities" provides 1 million won per newborn. Eligible recipients are households where either the father or mother is registered as a person with a disability and has maintained resident registration in Seongdong District from six months prior to the newborn's birth until the date of application.

This grant can be received in addition to the Seoul City childbirth support grant of 1.2 million won, allowing households with disabilities residing in Seongdong District to receive a total benefit of 2.2 million won per newborn.

In addition to the childbirth support grant, Seongdong District is also leading the way in implementing disability-friendly policies. The district has expanded care services for people with developmental disabilities and their families, and last year became the first in the nation to introduce "Developmental Disability Liability Insurance" to support the social participation of people with developmental disabilities. Furthermore, Seongdong District continues to promote the "First Floor for All Project" to create a barrier-free urban environment, as well as ongoing efforts to install and improve facilities for people with disabilities.

Jung Wonoh, Mayor of Seongdong District, stated, "This grant is an essential investment to reduce the initial childrearing costs that arise due to disabilities and to build a society where childbirth is genuinely celebrated. We will continue to carefully address the challenges faced by households with disabilities throughout their life cycle and do our utmost to realize the highest level of inclusive welfare for people with disabilities nationwide."
