Trump Supporters Launch Overt 'Hatred' Campaign Against White Progressive Women

Hardline supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump are openly launching a campaign of 'hatred' against white progressive women who participate in protests opposing immigration crackdowns. After a woman in her 30s was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent, a wave of protest ensued, and Trump administration opponents have become targets of ridicule and scorn as part of a counterattack by his supporters.

According to the New York Times on January 17 (local time), conservative influencers in the United States have begun referring to Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old woman killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as 'AWFUL.'

'AWFUL' is an acronym for 'Affluent White Female Urban Liberal,' and the word itself also means 'terrible' in English.

Conservative commentator Erick Erickson stated on social media that Renee Good, whom he labeled as 'AWFUL,' died while ramming her car at an ICE agent. He argued, "Progressive white people are becoming increasingly violent, and agents have the right to defend themselves."

Piers Outlaw, an AM radio host in Orlando, Florida, also criticized, "'AWFULs' are a disaster for a civilized society."

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, joined in the criticism of progressive women. On his X (formerly Twitter) account, which has 232 million followers, he mocked, "Progressive women will divorce their husbands and only let them see their children once a month, then turn around and cry about how ICE is tearing families apart and causing pain."

These highly educated white women, who have become targets of such attacks, are considered among President Trump’s strongest opponents.

White female voters with college degrees make up 17% of the U.S. electorate, a proportion comparable to that of white men with a high school education or less, who comprise 18% and are a core base of President Trump’s support. Among these women, 58% supported Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the last presidential election.

The New York Times reported, "Among less-educated white men who feel left behind in society without a college education, anxieties over long-standing issues such as race, gender, and immigration are resurfacing."

Former Republican congresswoman Barbara Comstock criticized, "President Trump and his administration are extremely misogynistic," adding, "This has always played a major role in his actions."

There are also observations that such 'labeling' by Trump supporters is not resonating with the general public. Joe Rogan, a prominent conservative podcaster, recently said on his podcast, "Of course, the situation is complicated, but seeing someone shoot an American citizen, especially a woman, in the face is a truly horrific thing." He was a supporter of Trump during the 2024 presidential election.
