Gyeonggi Province will invest 674.7 billion won this year to significantly improve its water supply and sewage infrastructure.

On January 18, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will invest a total of 674.7 billion won in water supply and sewage-related projects this year, including 83.2 billion won for water supply and 591.5 billion won for sewage. This represents an increase of 100.1 billion won (17.4%) compared to last year’s 574.6 billion won.

In the water supply sector, the province will allocate 32.3 billion won for the installation of advanced water purification facilities in Gwangmyeong and Anyang, and 26.3 billion won for the renovation of old water pipelines and purification plants as part of the local water supply modernization project. In the sewage sector, 334 billion won will be invested to improve sewer pipelines in 124 locations across 30 cities and counties, aiming to reduce inconveniences such as ground subsidence, flooding, and foul odors caused by the lack of or aging sewage systems. Starting this year, 17.2 billion won will also be allocated for the installation of manhole fall prevention facilities.

Furthermore, 196.9 billion won will be invested in 59 locations across 20 cities and counties, including Gapyeong County, to build or expand public sewage treatment plants and establish a foundation for managing the quality of discharged water. The province will also strengthen sewage treatment plant management through regular ecotoxicity testing and monitoring, creating a water environment where residents can feel safe from heavy metals and narcotics.

In addition, 12.6 billion won will be allocated for the reuse of treated sewage water, and 3.7 billion won for the installation of integrated biogas facilities for organic waste.

Yoon Deokhee, Head of the Gyeonggi Province Water Resources Headquarters, stated, "We will make full use of the secured budget to ensure the safety and stability of tap water supply, as well as to swiftly expand and maintain sewage treatment infrastructure. We are committed to creating a tangible sense of water welfare and a safe, clean living environment for our residents."
