A Winter Sports Experience Embracing Challenge, Cooperation, and Recovery

Sangju City has organized a winter sports experience event to support the healthy growth and emotional recovery of youths during the winter vacation period.

The city announced that it will operate the "2026 Youth Winter Sports Experience Camp" at Phoenix Park in Hoengseong County, Gangwon Province, for 60 elementary, middle, and high school students from the local area. The camp will be held in two sessions starting from January 14.

The first session, from January 14 to 16, will include 30 students from fifth grade in elementary school to first grade in middle school. The second session, from January 21 to 23, will host 30 students from second grade in middle school to second grade in high school.

This camp was designed to help alleviate the stress and sense of isolation experienced by youths in a rapidly changing social environment, and to foster both physical and mental health through activities in nature. The program consists mainly of beginner ski lessons, free skiing experiences, and community activities that encourage collaboration among peers.

Despite the severe cold, participating students focused on their lessons and built foundational skills, while naturally forming closer bonds by supporting each other during activities, adding meaning to their winter vacation. In particular, the combination of challenge, achievement, and cooperation has been well received, with the program recognized as more than just an experience, but as an opportunity for growth.

Ahn Yoonjung, Head of the Child and Women's Happiness Division of Sangju City, stated, "We hope this camp will be a valuable time for youths to develop teamwork and a spirit of challenge, as well as to form stronger bonds with their peers. We will continue to expand hands-on camp programs so that youths can grow up healthy and bright."

Sangju City plans to continue expanding programs that support emotional stability and vitality for youths, using this winter sports experience camp as a starting point.
