According to ruling party officials on January 17, the government is currently reviewing multiple candidates for the next president of the Korea Creative Content Agency, and Mr. Lee is reportedly among the leading contenders.
The Korea Creative Content Agency, which operates under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, supports all areas of K-content, including broadcasting, games, music, animation, and character content, and manages an annual budget of over 600 billion won. The president's term is three years, and as of 2024, the total annual compensation, including performance bonuses, exceeds 200 million won. This position has remained vacant for over a year.
Mr. Lee is also known for his relatively clear connections to the political world. During every election season, he has publicly declared his support for candidate Lee Jaemyung and actively participated in campaign activities. He has described President Lee as "a person with thorough preparation, strong execution, and an ability to communicate with ordinary people," and drew attention at campaign events by describing himself as "Lee Jaemyung to the bone."
He has also repeatedly appeared at rallies calling for the impeachment of President Yoon Sukyeol. Participating alongside citizens, he stated, "Protecting democracy is never easy," and added, "As a citizen, I want to do everything I can." Regarding the role of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, he emphasized, "Those in that position must fulfill the responsibilities that come with it," delivering a strong message.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has indicated that the selection process for the new president is in its final stages. Minister Choi Hwiyeong recently stated in a work briefing, "The acting system has operated smoothly during the vacancy," and added, "We plan to finalize the appointment of the new president soon." The ministry previously closed the public application process for the position and is expected to make the final decision after internal verification and procedures.
