Moved to Another State With Husband After Admitting Guilt
Probation, Sex Offender Registration... Public Curious About Why They Haven't Divorced
A former female teacher in the United States, who was convicted after admitting to having sexual relations with an underage student, has drawn attention for reportedly continuing to live with her husband without divorcing him even after the incident.
According to local media such as the New York Post, former high school teacher McKenna Kindred admitted in a 2024 trial to having sexual relations with a then-17-year-old student. Despite this, she has maintained her marriage and is now reportedly living in another state with her husband.
McKenna, who worked as a teacher at a high school in Washington State, began communicating with the underage student through social networking services (SNS) in June 2022, which led to the start of their relationship. Investigation records included messages such as "I wish you were in my room" and "It feels so good when you touch me." Prosecutors defined these as "inappropriate content that can never be permitted between a teacher and a student."
The two reportedly had sexual relations in the bedroom of her home in November of that year, while her husband, Kyle Kindred, was away on a trip. The school learned of the incident through reports from the student's friends, and the student admitted to both the sexual relationship and the exchange of explicit videos during a police investigation.
McKenna also fully admitted to the charges. In court, she apologized to the victim and the victim's family, saying, "Because of my actions, I lost my career, precious friendships, and my freedom. I disappointed many people who trusted me."
As a result, a Washington State court in March 2024 sentenced McKenna to two years of probation, a $700 fine, and ordered her to register as a sex offender for ten years. However, instead of separating, the couple decided to continue living together, and it was confirmed that about three months after the sentencing, in June 2024, they purchased a single-family home in Idaho under both of their names.
Previously, they had lived in a house on the outskirts of Washington State owned by her husband's parents, but they are now reportedly living within commuting distance of the area where her husband, who currently works as a lawyer, is employed. It has not been confirmed whether McKenna has found a new job.
After this news became public, online commenters reacted with statements such as, "This is shocking," "I'm curious why they didn't get divorced," and "There must be circumstances only the people involved know."
