Yangpyeong County Hosts "2026 Yangdong-myeon Communication Festival"
Focusing on Eastern Region Development and Local Economy
A Forum for Dialogue with Residents of Yangdong, the "City of Premium Chives"
Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Yang Jinseon) visited Yangdong-myeon, known as the "city of premium chives" and the largest area in the county located in its far east, on the 16th as the ninth event of the "2026 Communication Festival with County Residents," spending time engaging with local residents.

The event was held in the multipurpose auditorium on the third floor of the Yangdong Cultural Center and was attended by more than 100 people, including Yang Jinseon, Mayor of Yangpyeong County; Jeong Chang-eop, Yangdong-myeon Chief; provincial and county council members; heads of local organizations and institutions; and Yangdong-myeon residents.
The first part of the event was dedicated to sharing Yangdong-myeon's major achievements from the past year. Key accomplishments reviewed with residents included: the establishment of the Yangdong General Industrial Complex; the construction of the Yangdong Groundwater Storage Dam; the promotion of the Eastern Region Filling Project and Regional Balanced Development Project; and the successful hosting of the Yangpyeong Chive Festival.
Next, the future plans for the advancement of Yangdong-myeon in 2026 were presented. Major policy directions for prioritizing development in the eastern region and the local economy included: the extension of the Gyeongui-Jungang Line subway from Jipyeong to Yangdong and Wonju; the development of the Chaeum Plus Complex Center and Basic Living Base Project; the creation of the Heukhyanggi Barefoot Trail and Yangdong-myeon Leisure Sports Park; and customized market revitalization projects and the issuance of the Yangpyeong Love Gift Certificate for each market.
During the subsequent dialogue session with county residents, a variety of opinions closely related to daily life were raised, such as the paving of village roads and installation of sidewalks; installation of sewage pipes and crosswalks; support for delivery and collection when renting agricultural machinery; and suggestions for constructing a new cold storage facility. Relevant department and division heads attended on site to provide direct responses, creating an active forum for communication.

Yang Jinseon, Mayor of Yangpyeong County, said, "It was very meaningful to visit Yangdong, the land of balance, fulfillment, chives, and righteous armies, and to communicate with the residents. We will actively reflect the valuable opinions shared today in county administration and work together with the residents to make Yangdong-myeon an even better place to live."
