Dense fog is expected to blanket Gwangju and the entire Jeonnam region from tonight through early tomorrow morning, requiring extra caution for weekend traffic safety.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on January 16, many areas are forecasted to experience fog with visibility less than 1 km from the afternoon of the 16th through the morning of the 17th. Fog is expected to be even denser on coastal bridges such as Cheonsa Bridge, as well as on roads near rivers, lakes, and valleys.
On the 17th, temperatures are expected to be higher than the seasonal average, but the large difference between day and night temperatures may be a variable. The morning low on the 17th is forecasted to range from 0 to 4 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs between 5 and 14 degrees. On the 18th, the morning low will range from -5 to 3 degrees, and the daytime high from 8 to 14 degrees.
In particular, as the fog may freeze on the ground overnight and cause black ice on the roads, the Meteorological Administration advises drivers to maintain sufficient distance between vehicles, reduce speed, and pay special attention to prevent accidents.
Sea fog is also forecasted for the southern part of the West Sea, so caution is advised for maritime safety, including vessel operations. The sky is expected to gradually clear from tomorrow morning, but cloud cover is likely to increase again from the evening of the day after tomorrow.
An official from the Meteorological Administration emphasized, "Dense fog and black ice are major causes of large-scale accidents in winter," and added, "You should check traffic conditions frequently during your morning commute and ensure a safe following distance."
