A New Year's Gathering in Daegu Strengthens Unity

The 2026 Annual General Meeting and New Year's Reception of the Daegu Andong Hometown Association was held successfully on January 15 at the Dynasty Hall on the second floor of the Daegu Grand Hotel, with over 500 members and guests in attendance.

On this day, Han Dojun, President of the Daegu Andong Hometown Association, stated in his New Year's address, "Our association is more than just a social group; it is a community that preserves the roots of our hometown and connects its future." He added, "This year, we will broaden exchanges among members and expand youth participation to create a stronger association."

Seo Jeonghak, Advisor to the Daegu Andong Hometown Association, said in his congratulatory remarks, "The association represents our commitment to upholding the name of our hometown and embodies the strength of community that embraces one another." He emphasized, "Even as we live our lives in different places, we must not forget our roots in Andong, and senior members should pave the way for younger generations to participate naturally." He further requested the continued participation and solidarity of members, stating, "The unity we have now will become the foundation for the development of our hometown."

Kwon Ki-chang, Mayor of Andong, said in his congratulatory speech, "The support from those who cherish their hometown while living in Daegu is a strong force that enhances Andong's competitiveness." He asked, "As Andong transforms into a future-oriented city beyond tradition and culture, I hope our members will become key partners in this change."

Kwon Young-jin, National Assembly member from the People Power Party, also stressed, "The solution to overcoming the crisis in local regions ultimately lies in solidarity among people and the strength of regional communities." He added, "I will do my utmost in the National Assembly to ensure that the voices of our region are reflected in policies and budgets."

Lee Dong-hwan, President of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Residents’ Association, said, "Andong is the central city where the spirit and culture of North Gyeongsang Province are alive." He continued, "As our association has preserved regional identity and community values, we will continue to expand the foundation for mutual prosperity through cooperation with city and county hometown associations."

At the beginning of the new year, the unity of Andong natives gathered under the name of 'hometown' was more than simple camaraderie; it was a reaffirmation of regional identity and solidarity. As members pledged to maintain their roots in Daegu and plan for Andong's future together, the role and presence of the association became even more significant.
