On this day, the Chuncheon Leisure and Taekwondo Organizing Committee and the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation signed a business agreement for the development of Taekwondo at the reception room of Chuncheon City Hall. The signing ceremony was attended by Yuk Donghan, Chairman of the Chuncheon Leisure and Taekwondo Organizing Committee, Lee Kyuseok, Honorary President of the Asian Taekwondo Union, and Kim Junghun, Chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation.
The agreement includes seven major areas of cooperation aimed at realizing the industrial and cultural expansion potential of Taekwondo by linking Chuncheon City's vision of becoming a Taekwondo-centered city with the policy and content capabilities of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation.
The main areas of cooperation are: nurturing future Taekwondo talent and strengthening global capabilities; modern succession and international promotion of Taekwondo's cultural heritage; globalization of K-Taekwondo tourism; joint efforts to secure Taekwondo policies and resources; functional diversification of Taekwondo hubs; expansion of global networks and active information exchange; and development of innovative Taekwondo cultural content and value creation.
Chairman Yuk Donghan stated, "Today's agreement is not just a simple collaboration but an important turning point in designing the future of Taekwondo in Korea. If Chuncheon's leisure and tourism resources are combined with Taekwondo cultural content, the city can be reborn as a Taekwondo mecca visited by people from around the world. Through close cooperation with the foundation, we will strive to spread the value of Taekwondo globally and achieve tangible policy outcomes."
Kim Junghun, Chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, said, "Cooperation with Chuncheon, which is rooted in the region and on-site experience, will be a significant opportunity for expanding Taekwondo policies and content. We will continue to collaborate for the global leap of Taekwondo."
Meanwhile, with this agreement as a starting point, Chuncheon City will officially launch a year of global Taekwondo festivals that combine K-sports and K-culture, and the annual schedule for the international Taekwondo competition to be held in Chuncheon in 2026 has also been confirmed.
This July, the Gangwon-Chuncheon World Taekwondo Culture Festival will be held for nine days from July 8 to 16, followed by the Chuncheon Korea Open International Taekwondo Championships from July 18 to 22 for five days. In addition, the 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships will take place from September 16 to 20, marking Chuncheon's emergence as a true global center for Taekwondo.
An official from the organizing committee stated, "This year will be a turning point for Chuncheon as it rises to become the 'mecca of Taekwondo' visited by Taekwondo practitioners from around the world."
