Applications Accepted from January 19 to 30, Total of 200 Devices Available
Eligible Products Include Drying-Type Devices; Disposers Excluded
Gyeongsan City (Mayor Cho Hyunil) announced that it will be accepting applications for the "2026 Household Food Waste Reduction Device Purchase Support Project" from January 19 to January 30, 2026, in an effort to reduce food waste generated in households at the source.
Household food waste reduction devices are food waste processors that use methods such as drying, grinding, and microbial fermentation to reduce food waste, achieving an 80% reduction in the amount of food waste discharged.
This project will support up to 50% of the purchase price (up to 400,000 won) for citizens who purchase a household food waste reduction device, with a total of 200 devices to be provided (one per household), to ensure the continuous reduction of food waste.
Eligible applicants are households with resident registration addresses in Gyeongsan City as of the announcement date, who have purchased a household reduction device (excluding business establishments). The product must have quality certification (such as Group Standard, Environmental Label, K-Mark, Q-Mark, etc.) and safety certification (KC Mark).
However, kitchen waste disposers that discharge food waste into the sewer (commonly known as disposers), products purchased before the selection of recipients, as well as rental or used products, are excluded from support.
Citizens wishing to participate should refer to the "2026 Household Food Waste Reduction Device Purchase Support Project Announcement" posted in the notices section of the Gyeongsan City website and apply in person at the Resource Circulation Division.
Kim Suhee, Head of the Resource Circulation Division, stated, "We believe that the distribution of household reduction devices will not only decrease the amount of food waste generated, but also help resolve issues such as odors and pests that occur during collection and transportation," adding, "We ask for the active interest and participation of our citizens."
Meanwhile, last year, 224 households in Gyeongsan City received support, and the project has proven popular among citizens for its effectiveness in reducing food waste and its convenience.
