Selected as Lead Organization for the 'Core Technology Development Project for the Robotics Industry' by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy
Aiming to Expand Commercialized Model to All Locations by 2030
On January 16, Lotte Hotel & Resort announced that it will become the first in the hotel industry to participate in a government-led humanoid technology development project, aiming to establish next-generation hotel services utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) robots.
Lotte Hotel & Resort has been selected as the lead organization for the government-funded 'Core Technology Development Project for the Robotics Industry,' overseen by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The company will drive the development and demonstration of humanoid robots optimized for hotel environments.
In particular, the company plans to verify and advance sophisticated technologies on-site, such as five-finger (5-Finger) manipulation technology for delicate hand movements required in hotel work, and autonomous navigation capabilities in indoor spaces with unpredictable routes and structures.
The initial plan is to deploy humanoid robots for tasks that do not involve direct customer contact, such as room maintenance, item delivery, and facility management, in order to accumulate operational data. Subsequently, the company intends to expand the application of these robots to face-to-face service areas, including concierge and check-in services.
Lotte Hotel & Resort has designated Lotte Hotel Seoul as the first pilot site, and has begun job analysis and proof-of-concept (PoC) assessments based on real hotel work environments. The company has also signed an agreement with deep tech company RLWRLD, which develops 'Physical AI' and the 'Robotics Foundation Model (RFM),' and is establishing a master plan to introduce humanoids tailored to hotel operations starting in October.
Based on the accumulated operational data, Lotte Hotel & Resort aims to refine its learning models and expand the commercialized model to all locations by 2030. A representative from Lotte Hotel & Resort stated, "We have been recognized for our competitiveness as a technology partner in shaping the standards for future hotel services," adding, "We plan to enhance the technology and operational expertise accumulated through this project into intellectual property (IP), and expand our B2B solutions across the broader premium hospitality sector, including hotels, hospitals, and senior living communities."
