An elderly man in his 80s who lost consciousness and collapsed at a pharmacy was saved thanks to the swift response of a nearby police officer on duty.


According to the Gwangju Nambu Police Station on January 16, at around 9:20 a.m. on December 22, a man in his 80s, identified as Mr. A, suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed at a pharmacy in Baegun-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju.


A citizen who witnessed the situation came out of the pharmacy to seek help and spotted a police officer nearby who was responding to a 112 call regarding traffic inconvenience. The citizen urgently requested assistance, saying, "A person collapsed clutching his chest and is not breathing."


The police officer immediately ran to the pharmacy, checked Mr. A's condition, and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) right away.


The officer continued emergency measures, including securing the airway and removing foreign substances from the mouth, until paramedics arrived at the scene.


Thanks to the police officer's quick judgment and on-site response, Mr. A gradually regained consciousness and was safely transported to the hospital by the 119 paramedics who arrived at the scene.


It has been reported that Mr. A, who was transported to the hospital, is currently recovering his health.
