Company Donates 11 Billion Won to Busan... Public-Private Partnership Accelerates 'World Design Capital' Project

MDM Plus Donates to Improve Park and Recreation Area Design

A real estate finance company based in the Seoul metropolitan area has generously donated 11 billion won to Busan City. The donation is intended to support Busan’s ongoing initiative to become the World Design Capital (WDC) in 2028. With these funds, Busan is expected to launch a large-scale project to improve the design environment of major parks and recreation areas in Haeundae.

On the morning of January 16, Busan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced that it would hold a “Busan City - MDM Plus Donation Ceremony” at the International Protocol Room in Busan City Hall. The event will be attended by Park Hyungjoon, Mayor of Busan, Koo Myungwan, CEO of MDM Plus, and relevant city officials.

The entire 11 billion won donation from MDM Plus will be allocated to the “World Design Capital Busan Haeundae-gu Park and Recreation Area Design Environment Improvement Project.” This donation, as part of the company’s commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) management, will be used to improve the design and environment of spaces, facilities, and landscapes throughout Haeundae Park, Dongbaek Park, and the Dongbaek Recreation Area.

Through this project, the city plans to create a representative public open space that symbolically showcases the identity of World Design Capital Busan. The goal is to elevate the quality of the urban landscape in the Haeundae tourism district. By comprehensively applying public design, the city aims to realize a coastal park where both citizens and tourists can “walk, stay, and remember.”

This donation is being recognized as a leading example of public-private partnership aligned with the theme and direction of “World Design Capital Busan.” The city expects it will serve as an opportunity to innovate citizens’ everyday spaces through design and enhance the city’s overall competitiveness.

Busan City plans to gradually implement a design-centered urban policy based on public-private cooperation from 2026 to 2028, under the theme “An Inclusive City, Design Created Together.” Various design projects with direct citizen participation will also be introduced in sequence.

MDM Plus is an affiliate of the MDM Group, the largest real estate finance group in Korea with assets of approximately 8 trillion won. Since its establishment in 1998, the group has expanded its business areas from real estate development to finance, asset management, marketing, and cultural enterprises.

Park Hyungjoon, Mayor of Busan, emphasized, “MDM Plus’s donation is a model case of public-private cooperation toward ‘World Design Capital Busan 2028.’ We will create global-standard park and recreation spaces where citizens can truly experience the value of design in their daily lives.”
