Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, visited Dokkaebi Market, the only traditional market in Uiwang City, where restoration work is underway with support from Gyeonggi Province following heavy snowfall damage, to encourage the merchants.
On January 15, Governor Kim visited Uiwang City as part of his on-site tour of the local economy, where he checked the progress of restoration work at Dokkaebi Market, monitored price trends ahead of the Lunar New Year, and spoke with market merchants.
During his meeting with Park Yong-sul, President of the Dokkaebi Market Merchants Association, Governor Kim said, "How have you been? The heavy snowfall from two years ago has been on my mind, so I came to see how things are," expressing his concern. He added, "We tried to complete the construction quickly, but it was delayed due to the Lunar New Year peak season. I hope your business goes well during the holiday, and once it's over, we will proceed swiftly."
President Park Yong-sul responded, "The construction is progressing extremely quickly," and added, "Last year, with the support we received, the parking lot defects were completely repaired."

This marks Governor Kim's third visit to Uiwang Dokkaebi Market since taking office.
Uiwang Dokkaebi Market suffered significant hardship in November 2024 when the market arcade (canopy) collapsed due to heavy snowfall, forcing many stores to close. On the day of the damage, Governor Kim visited the market to comfort and encourage the merchants, promising prompt support.
Governor Kim also visited Dokkaebi Market on January 26 last year to offer support to the merchants and check price trends.
In August last year, Gyeonggi Province provided a special adjustment grant of 3 billion won for the installation of the arcade. Construction has been underway since November last year, with completion targeted for April this year.
Established in 1980, Uiwang Dokkaebi Market covers a site area of 8,368 square meters and houses 128 stores.
