Immediately after his election, Floor Leader Han stated, "I believe the Steering Committee is like the engine room of the massive ship that is the National Assembly. If the engine room stops, the ship will drift." He continued, "It is true that, until now, we have given the public more disappointment than hope. Now, we must power up the stalled engine once again." He added, "It is the fundamental duty of the legislature to process bills that change people's lives in a timely manner," and pledged, "By organizing the legislative schedule and maintaining order, I will pave a legislative expressway for livelihood bills that are critical to the urgent lives of our citizens."
The position of Steering Committee Chairperson, which is typically held by the ruling party's floor leader, became vacant on December 30 when Kim Byungki, the former Democratic Party floor leader, resigned amid various allegations, including those related to nomination funds.
