Former Gyeongbuk Teachers' Union Head Lee Yonggi Announces Candidacy for Superintendent... Free Public Transportation for Youth

Lee Yonggi (age 60), head of the Gyeongbuk Innovation Education Research Institute "Gonggam," held a press conference at the briefing room of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education on January 15, officially announcing his candidacy for Gyeongbuk Superintendent of Education.


Lee Yonggi stated, "It is time to move beyond education centered on competition and efficiency and shift to education that protects students' lives," as he declared his bid to become the first superintendent in Gyeongbuk with a democratic and progressive vision.

Free Public Transportation for Youth Lee Yonggi, former head of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union, is declaring his candidacy for the Gyeongbuk Superintendent of Education.

To transform education in Gyeongbuk, Lee Yonggi presented three key pledges: implementing free public transportation for youth as the first step toward realizing "Healthy Growth Schools," providing a 1 million won voucher to support students' entry into society, and establishing assemblies for students, faculty, and parents.


Lee Yonggi, who is running for office, is a former regular teacher with 32 years of experience at middle and high schools. He has served as head of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union and as director of the Gyeongbuk Innovation Education Research Institute. On December 12 of last year, "2026 Gyeongbuk Education Hope," an organization formed by civic groups and citizens in the Gyeongbuk region, selected Lee Yonggi as the unified democratic and progressive candidate through a primary.
