Daily Limit of 8,000 Steps
Challenge to Achieve a Total of 96,000 Steps
Damyang County in South Jeolla Province will launch an online walking challenge titled "Stay Healthy in the New Year" to encourage physical activity among residents as the Year of Byeongo (2026) begins.
On January 15, Damyang County announced that it will hold a non-face-to-face walking challenge using the smartphone application "Walk ON" from January 26 to February 8.
Residents who wish to participate can install the "Walk ON" app from their smartphone app store and join the official Damyang County walking community. During the challenge period, the first 500 participants to achieve a total of 96,000 steps will receive a small prize. However, to prevent participants from accumulating all their steps on a single day, the maximum number of steps recognized per day is limited to 8,000.
Since launching the Walk ON community in 2021, Damyang County has held annual walking challenges to improve residents' health indicators. Last year, a total of 6,938 residents participated in five challenges, which gained significant popularity.
The county plans to continue expanding infrastructure for a healthier local community by operating a monthly "Walking Day" and discovering new "good walking trails" in each village.
A county official stated, "Walking is the best way for anyone to maintain their health easily and economically," and added, "We hope residents will set new health goals for the year and enjoy putting them into practice through the Walk ON challenge."
