7.2% Increase for Single-Person Households, Relaxed Income Criteria
"We Will Proactively Identify and Support Through Public-Private Cooperation"

Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province is expanding its support for living expenses and medical expenses to assist those facing financial difficulties due to sudden crisis situations.

Siheung City Expands Emergency Living Expense Support for Households in Crisis

On January 15, Siheung City announced that, starting this year, it will ease the application requirements for the "Emergency Welfare Support System" and increase the amount of support provided. The "Emergency Welfare Support System" offers urgent support for living expenses and medical expenses to households struggling to maintain their livelihood due to unexpected crises such as illness, injury, unemployment, or business suspension or closure.

Households in crisis who require assistance can apply at the administrative welfare center in their local district. After an on-site investigation and review, emergency support will be provided.

With these improvements, the emergency living expense support for a single-person household has increased by 7.2% from last year to 783,000 won per month. For a four-person household, the support amount has also risen by 6.5% to 1,994,600 won.

The eligibility criteria have also been relaxed. For single-person households, the income threshold has been raised from 1,794,010 won or less to 1,923,179 won or less. For four-person households, it has been adjusted from 4,573,330 won or less to 4,871,054 won or less.

The financial asset limit used to determine eligibility has also been eased. For single-person households, it has increased from 8,392,000 won to 8,564,000 won, and for four-person households, from 12,097,000 won to 12,494,000 won.

Previously, the city supported 6,076 households in crisis last year by providing a total of 5,982,690,000 won in living and medical expenses, through initiatives such as the emergency welfare crisis counseling call center, the establishment of a proactive welfare safety net, and strengthening public-private cooperation.

Shim Yoonsik, Director of Welfare at Siheung City, stated, "We will continue to proactively identify citizens in crisis and build a comprehensive welfare safety net through public-private cooperation."
