Sangju City Designs the Colors of Spring... Revamping Urban Landscape with 'Trend Tulips'

Expanding the Sense of Seasons in Daily Life with Trendsetting Varieties
A Green Space Strategy Achieving Quality, Budget Efficiency, and Excellence

Sangju City has officially launched its urban landscape strategy, targeting the spring of 2026.

The city is currently cultivating and managing bulbous plants such as tulips and hyacinths in pots at its own nursery, preparing to create a spring landscape that will vividly convey the change of seasons to residents’ daily lives.

The tulips being cultivated this time are not the common varieties, but rather the latest trend varieties that have recently attracted attention in the garden and urban landscape sectors.

In particular, 'Mango Charm' and 'Spryng Break' are highly valued for their unique colors and flower shapes, as well as their ornamental value, and are considered key elements that will significantly enhance the quality of the spring landscape. Sangju City plans to present these under the theme of '2026 Trend Tulips,' offering residents a spring cityscape that stands out from previous years.

The bulbous plants currently growing in the nursery are in good condition and are being systematically managed with consideration for their blooming period and quality. By cultivating them directly rather than relying on external procurement, the city is not only ensuring stable quality but also achieving budget savings. This approach is being recognized for presenting a direction for sustainable green space administration, beyond just short-term landscape effects.

These tulip pots will be installed at key locations throughout the city, including Hwahae Bridge, a major bridge near the Sangju IC entrance. Serving as symbolic landscape features that allow people to intuitively sense the change of seasons the moment they enter the city, they will help both residents and visitors associate Sangju with spring.

An Jaehyun, Director of the Forest and Greenery Division, stated, "Our goal was to elevate the quality of the urban landscape by proactively preparing trendsetting varieties, going beyond simply planting flowers," and added, "We will continue to create distinctive green spaces so that citizens can naturally experience the beauty of the seasons in their daily lives."
