KOSPI Pauses Near 4,700 Amid Fluctuations... KOSDAQ Also Searching for Direction

On January 15, the domestic stock market is experiencing a period of consolidation, with fluctuations within a narrow range in early trading.


As of 9:20 a.m. on January 15, the KOSPI was trading at 4,739.02, up 15.92 points (0.34%) from the previous day. The index had initially opened at 4,710.98, down 12.12 points (0.26%), but managed to turn upward during the session, once again reaching a new all-time high.

While institutional investors made net purchases of 46.4 billion won, individual investors and foreign investors recorded net sales of 51.1 billion won and 4.3 billion won, respectively. In the KOSPI200 futures market, individual investors and foreign investors bought 271.5 billion won and 1.7 billion won, respectively, while institutions sold 286.8 billion won.


The top KOSPI stocks by market capitalization are showing mixed performances. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (up 2.93%), Kia (up 2.03%), Hanwha Aerospace (up 1.58%), and Samsung Biologics (up 1.50%) are on the rise. In contrast, SK Square (down 1.95%), SK Hynix (down 1.48%), Samsung Electronics (down 0.71%), Doosan Enerbility (down 0.67%), Hyundai Motor (down 0.61%), and LG Energy Solution (down 0.51%) are declining.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ was trading at 942.68, up 0.50 points (0.05%). The index had opened at 940.03, down 2.15 points (0.23%), but soon rebounded. While individual investors and institutions made net purchases of 900 million won and 7.7 billion won, respectively, foreign investors recorded net sales of 200 million won, with no clear dominant buying force emerging.


The top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization are also mixed. Samchundang Pharm (up 3.78%), Rainbow Robotics (up 3.70%), Legochem Biosciences (up 1.90%), ABL Bio (up 1.72%), Alteogen (up 1.28%), Kolon TissueGene (up 1.12%), and Peptron (up 0.22%) are strong, while Ecopro (down 1.38%), Ecopro BM (down 1.27%), and HLB (down 0.95%) are weak.


By theme, department stores (up 5.19%), shipbuilding (up 3.45%), touch panels (up 3.13%), and refining (up 2.69%) are showing gains. Meanwhile, superconductors (down 2.13%), LED equipment (down 1.88%), and nuclear fusion energy (down 1.70%) related stocks are declining.


On the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won-dollar exchange rate opened at 1,465.0 won per dollar, down 12.5 won from the previous day.
