Daejeon City will begin full-scale implementation of the "Chronic Congestion Area Improvement Project" for areas experiencing persistent traffic jams, including the Chimsindae Intersection in Yuseong-gu and the access road to the Sangseo Hi-Pass IC in Shintanjin, Daedeok-gu.

The city plans to invest a total of 600 million won from its budget this year to alleviate traffic inconvenience for residents and ensure smooth vehicle flow within the city center, aiming to complete the project within the year.

First, to resolve bottlenecks in the Chimsindae Intersection area of Yuseong-gu-where the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) route passes and traffic volume is concentrated-the city will invest 450 million won to expand roads at three locations: in front of Jijok Station (L=100m), in front of Lotte Mart Noeun Branch in Hagidong (L=170m), and in front of Yuseong-gu Disabled Welfare Center in Jukdong (L=120m).

Through structural improvements and road expansion in these sections, the city expects to restore the main arterial function of the BRT corridor and dramatically improve traffic flow, including access to nearby residential complexes.

Additionally, as part of this project, a new left-turn lane (L=150m) will be constructed in the area of 47-46 San, Sangseo-dong, Daedeok-gu, for vehicles entering the Sangseo Hi-Pass IC in Shintanjin.

The new left-turn entry lane is expected to resolve the congestion previously caused by vehicles waiting to enter the Hi-Pass IC, enabling faster and safer access to the expressway and improving logistics transport and convenience for citizens.

Nam Sideok, Director of the Daejeon City Transportation Bureau, stated, "This improvement project is a tailored solution to address vehicle congestion and citizen inconvenience caused by the opening of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Since the chronic congestion area improvement project can have a significant impact on urban traffic flow through small-scale road expansions, we will complete the work swiftly to create a pleasant road environment that citizens can truly experience."
