Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province has formed a 'Joint Task Force for Impounding Vehicles in Arrears' to enhance the efficiency of collecting local taxes and non-tax revenue from vehicles in arrears, and will begin full-scale operations starting in February.
The task force consists of four members, including a team leader, and will track vehicles in arrears both inside and outside the city to impound their license plates. The joint impounding operation will target vehicles with overdue local taxes as well as vehicles with unpaid non-tax revenue (such as automobile-related fines).
The task force will be responsible for managing license plates and processing data following impoundment, as well as collecting the overdue amounts. In addition, it will review impoundment performance on a quarterly basis and plans to designate specific days for city and district-wide joint crackdowns on vehicles in arrears.
Based on the results of the task force's operations, Suwon City will continue to improve its collection system and plans to provide a one-stop collection service by integrating notifications for both local taxes and non-tax revenue to those in arrears.
A Suwon City official stated, "We are operating the Joint Task Force for Impounding Vehicles in Arrears to enhance the effectiveness of collecting overdue amounts," adding, "By focusing on field-based responses, we aim to increase the collection rate and reduce inconvenience for citizens."
