December Automobile Tax Collection Rate Within Deadline Up 9% Year-on-Year
Gyeongsan City (Mayor Cho Hyunil) announced on January 14 that the introduction of a mobile electronic notification system last year, aimed at improving the tax environment for daily life, has resulted in an increase in the local tax collection rate.
The city increased the notification receipt rate by sending Kakao AlimTalk messages, which were introduced to address errors that occurred during the electronic delivery process. In addition, advance reminders were provided for payment deadlines for two types of regular taxes with approaching due dates (property tax and automobile tax).
In particular, for the December automobile tax, the collection rate within the payment deadline rose by 9% year-on-year through the dispatch of 24,000 AlimTalk messages, enabling the early collection of over 900 million won in local taxes.
This is attributed to the convenience offered to taxpayers by allowing them to instantly check the notification content on their smartphones and immediately connect to the payment system.
Starting this year, the city plans to expand the service to provide deadline reminders for all regular taxes, including the January registration license tax, and to extend it to the overall local tax administration, such as acquisition tax filing and payment guidance.
Kim Byungwon, Head of the Taxation Division, stated, "Local taxes are important information directly related to the lives of citizens, so we prioritize guaranteeing taxpayers' right to know," adding, "We will strengthen tax administration publicity related to local taxes and realize a citizen-centered, trustworthy tax administration."
