Bonghwa County is currently accepting applications for the early lump-sum payment of automobile tax for 2026. Applications can be made in person or by phone at the county office or at each township and town office.

The early lump-sum payment system allows residents to pay the automobile tax, which is normally billed twice a year in June and December, in a single payment in January and receive a certain percentage discount.

This year, a discount of about 4.5% will be applied based on the tax amount for the remaining period from February to December. Therefore, applying and paying in January offers the greatest tax-saving benefit, even compared to other early payment periods.

Applications for early lump-sum payment are also available in March, June, and September, but the discount rate decreases step by step the later the application is made. However, if the vehicle is transferred or scrapped after the early payment, the automobile tax for the remaining period will be refunded based on the date of ownership transfer or cancellation, minimizing the taxpayer's burden.

Payments can be made at any financial institution or CD/ATM nationwide without a bill, and can also be processed conveniently through non-face-to-face channels such as Wetax, Internet Giro, financial institution mobile banking apps, virtual accounts, and ARS.

Geum Daewon, Head of the Finance Division at Bonghwa County, stated, "The early lump-sum payment of automobile tax is a system that enhances the stability and collection efficiency of local finances while providing substantial tax-saving benefits to residents. We hope that by applying within the deadline, residents can enjoy a more reasonable tax burden."
