At around 7:06 a.m. on January 14, a fire broke out at a detached house in Chodong-myeon, Miryang-si, Gyeongnam Province.
The fire reduced the entire house to ashes, and also damaged half of a cold storage facility and half of a makeshift storage building. According to the fire department, the estimated property damage amounted to approximately 61.98 million won.
The resident of the house evacuated safely, and there were no casualties.
After receiving the report, the fire authorities dispatched 101 personnel and 24 pieces of equipment. They brought the main fire under control by 8:23 a.m. and completed extinguishing efforts by 11:53 a.m. on the same day.
Because the house was located near a wooded hill, there was a significant risk of the fire spreading to the forest. However, the fire department quickly contained the situation.
According to the fire authorities, the female resident in her 60s had placed oak firewood in the wood boiler between 6 and 7 p.m. the previous day.
It was found that while she was getting ready for work at the time of the fire, she heard a crackling and burning sound, went to the living room, and discovered flames near the flue on the wall of the wood boiler. She attempted to put out the fire using five fire extinguishers.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire based on the resident's statements and on-site inspections.
