Accelerating Early Groundbreaking of the Yongmun?Hongcheon Metropolitan Railway

From the very beginning of the new year in 2026, Hongcheon County has been accelerating its efforts for the early commencement of the Yongmun-Hongcheon metropolitan railway project, following the project's passing of the preliminary feasibility study on December 22, 2025.

Hongcheon County announced that it would visit the Sejong Government Complex, including the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, as well as the National Railroad Corporation in Daejeon Metropolitan City.

With the start of the new year, Hongcheon County visited central government agencies to express gratitude to officials and ministries who actively supported the project in passing the preliminary feasibility study for the Yongmun-Hongcheon metropolitan railway. In addition, they discussed the next steps following the completion of the preliminary feasibility study and requested continued interest and cooperation to ensure the early groundbreaking of the Hongcheon railway.

A Hongcheon County official stated, "The Yongmun-Hongcheon metropolitan railway will serve as a powerful driving force for the next 100 years of development," adding, "While thoroughly preparing for an early groundbreaking, we will also swiftly advance regional development plans, such as concretizing the development strategy for the Hongcheon station area and reorganizing the public transportation system in connection with the railway station. Through the railway construction project, we aim to revitalize the local economy and maximize its economic ripple effects."

Meanwhile, the Yongmun-Hongcheon metropolitan railway is a large-scale national project, consisting of a single-track railway stretching 32.7 kilometers from Yongmun Station to Hongcheon Station, with a total project cost of 1.0995 trillion won.
