The diplomatic delegation consisted of 32 members from 11 countries, including the ambassadors of Malaysia, Tajikistan, Kenya, and Iraq, as well as diplomats from the United States, Bangladesh, Laos, Honduras, Argentina, Zambia, and Congo.
They departed from Seoul and arrived in Hwacheon on the 13th.
After enjoying lunch featuring a variety of Sancheoneo trout dishes at a local restaurant, the group visited the Ethiopian Veterans Descendants Scholarship Promotion Center, where they experienced locally brewed coffee made in the traditional way by descendants of Ethiopian veterans.
Next, they headed to the fishing area designated for foreigners and eagerly took on the challenge of ice fishing for Sancheoneo trout.
Soon, exclamations of excitement erupted from the diplomats as they successfully caught Sancheoneo trout throughout the site.
At the foreigner grilling area, the diplomatic delegation sampled grilled Sancheoneo trout and various other dishes before moving on to the indoor ice sculpture plaza, where they admired the magnificent ice lantern artworks firsthand.
Hwacheon County invites diplomatic delegations, including ambassadors and diplomats from embassies in Korea, to the festival every year.
The purpose is to promote the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival, designated as a global festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to the diplomatic corps and to encourage them to share news of the festival with their home countries.
Choi Moonsoon, Mayor of Hwacheon County, said, "Through the diplomatic delegation's visit, we are striving to make the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival known to even more countries."
