[Stock in Focus] Lotte Energy Materials Rises on News of "Strengthening Capabilities for High-Value-Added Copper Foil for AI"

Lotte Energy Materials is showing strong performance. This appears to be influenced by news that the company will convert its facilities to respond to the surging demand for high-value-added copper foil for artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

As of 1:36 p.m. on January 14, Lotte Energy Materials was trading at 34,250 won, up 11.38% from the previous day.

According to industry sources on this day, Lotte Energy Materials held its 2026 First Half Global Strategy Meeting at its Iksan plant in North Jeolla Province over two days, January 13 and 14, with major domestic and overseas executives, including CEO Kim Yeonseop, in attendance. During the meeting, each business unit shared its plans and held presentations and discussions by date for the copper foil and battery foil businesses, focusing on strengthening capabilities and conducting in-depth discussions on key issues to enhance competitiveness.

On the first day of the meeting, discussions centered on securing competitiveness for the Iksan plant, which is pursuing a rapid business transition focused on high-value-added copper foil, aiming to achieve global top-tier status. The Iksan plant, Korea's only copper foil production base, is experiencing a surge in demand for high-value-added copper foil for AI from big tech companies. The company plans to quickly establish itself in the global value chain through 'speed' and 'execution,' aiming to secure customer trust by completing customer approvals ahead of schedule, rapidly stabilizing quality, and expanding production capacity.

To this end, Lotte Energy Materials plans to convert all of the battery foil production lines at the Iksan plant, with a capacity of about 20,000 tons, to copper foil lines. The company expects that once product approvals from domestic and overseas customers are completed after the line conversion, 2026 will mark the first full year of significant growth in sales of high-value-added copper foil for AI applications.
