Four Career KPGA Wins, Discharge Scheduled for Late 2027
Marriage Registered Last November, Wedding Planned After Discharge
Ko Guntak will enlist in February.
On January 14, he stated, "I am scheduled to enlist on February 9," adding, "As a citizen of the Republic of Korea, I will faithfully fulfill my mandatory military service and return to the tour afterward."
He made his debut on the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA) Tour in 2020. After claiming his first victory at the 18th DB Insurance Promy Open in 2023, he went on to win the Honors K·Sollago Country Club Hanjang Sang Invitational and the 39th Shinhan Donghae Open that same year, achieving three wins in a single season. In 2024, he recorded his fourth career win at the KPGA Founders Cup with Hanmaek Country Club.
Ko Guntak commented, "I originally planned to enlist after the 2023 season, but I postponed it because I achieved three wins. Now, I think it is time to go," he said with a smile. He added, "I have no regrets about delaying enlistment, as I gained a lot of experience by competing on the Japan Tour and the Asian Tour."
By winning the Shinhan Donghae Open, he secured tour cards for both the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO) and the Asian Tour, allowing him to compete on three tours including the domestic circuit. In 2024, he finished second at the JGTO Mizuno Open, one of the Asian qualifying series tournaments that offer a spot in The Open, and thus participated in the 152nd edition of The Open.
Last year, he competed on three tours: the KPGA Tour, JGTO, and the Asian Tour. He finished tied for sixth at the KPGA Founders Cup, tied for ninth at the JGTO Maezawa Cup, and placed fifth at the Asian Tour's New Zealand Open. He will be discharged in the second half of 2027. Ko Guntak revealed, "I registered my marriage in November last year," and added, "We plan to hold the wedding ceremony after I am discharged."
