During the meeting, each business unit-circuit foil and battery foil-shared their business plans through separate presentations and discussions by day, focusing on strengthening capabilities to enhance competitiveness and engaging in in-depth discussions on key issues.
On the first day, discussions centered on strategies for the Iksan plant to achieve global top-tier status in the high-value-added circuit foil business and to accelerate business transformation. As the only domestic production base for circuit foil, the Iksan plant is experiencing a surge in demand for high-value-added circuit foil for artificial intelligence (AI) from major big tech companies. The company aims to quickly secure a position in the global value chain through "speed" and "execution," by expediting customer approvals, stabilizing quality, and expanding production capacity, thereby earning customer trust.
To this end, Lotte Energy Materials plans to convert the entire battery foil production capacity of approximately 20,000 tons at the Iksan plant to circuit foil lines. After the line conversion, once product approvals from domestic and international customers are completed, the company anticipates that this year will mark the beginning of a significant increase in sales of high-value-added circuit foil for AI applications.
On the second day, discussions continued on enhancing operational execution and diversifying the product portfolio at the Malaysia plant, which is preparing to begin high-end battery foil production. The Malaysia plant has improved yield and efficiency through the inventory and scrap reduction processes of the RISE 1000 project initiated last year, and starting this year, aims to achieve world-class cost competitiveness through the second phase of the project’s innovation activities.
In response to more diversified customers and products, the company is preparing to fully operate the Malaysia Plant 5 and 6, completed in 2024, with the goal of producing high-value-added products such as ultra-thin foil, high-strength foil, thick foil, and wide foil, all of which are technically challenging to manufacture. By leveraging state-of-the-art facilities and skilled expertise, the company aims to achieve zero customer claims and raise plant productivity to the highest global standards, thereby strengthening its quality competitiveness.
CEO Kim Yeonseop stated, "We will aggressively drive innovation across our entire operational system by integrating data-driven AI technology into production, quality, and development sites. We will also increase the share of new customers and applications by more than 20 percent to minimize business risks from stagnation in the electric vehicle market. Furthermore, we will focus all company resources on proactive marketing and new market development to secure a leading position when demand recovers."
