Recruitment of Promising Youth Talent Song Minji
The Dobong District Office Breaking Team is making a fresh start this year under the leadership of new head coach Shin Gwanghyun.
According to Dobong District on January 14, Coach Shin is a highly experienced leader with extensive on-site coaching experience, including serving as coach for the Seoul Breaking Team at the 106th National Sports Festival. As a competitor in 2002, he became the first Asian team to win one of the world’s five major breaking competitions, the “Battle of the Year” (BOTY).

This time, Dobong District has also recruited promising youth player Song Minji. Song is a next-generation breaking talent who took first place in the B-girl division of the “2025 Breaking K-Final Competition” youth category.
With the addition of Song, the team’s pool of promising athletes has become even stronger. Currently, the team includes Eom Hyeseong, the top male high school competitor who claimed first place in both the first and second rounds, as well as the final, of the 2025 Breaking K competition.
Dobong District stated, “With the recruitment of Coach Shin and Song Minji, the team’s capabilities will be significantly enhanced. We expect excellent results under the guidance of experienced senior athletes such as Kim Hongyeol.” Oh Eunseok, Mayor of Dobong District, added, “We will do our utmost to support the athletes so that they can train and perform at their best.”
Since its founding in 2023, the Dobong District Office Breaking Team has been making history by winning a silver medal at the Asian Games, qualifying for the Paris Olympics, becoming the first in the nation to win both gold and bronze medals in the breaking event at the National Sports Festival, and producing national team athletes for 2026. The inaugural head coach was Lee Woosung, who is regarded as a pioneer in Korean breaking.
