Shinsegae’s Designated Sourcing Project ‘Select Farm’
Strict Selection: Only Mangoes at 85% Ripeness Included
Shinsegae Department Store announced on January 13 that it will launch a premium gift set for the 2026 Lunar New Year, expanding its designated sourcing regions to include overseas locations.
Shinsegae has partnered directly with renowned farms in Chachoengsao, Thailand-a region famous for its mangoes-to introduce a limited-edition holiday gift set. The company has applied its own quality standards throughout the entire process, from cultivation and harvesting to ripening, selection, and logistics. This initiative goes beyond simply importing foreign produce; it is a joint project with the production region, planned collaboratively from the production stage. It represents the first case in the industry where a direct partnership has been established with overseas farms specifically for holiday gift sales.
Through its proprietary sourcing project, 'Select Farm,' Shinsegae Department Store has previously collaborated with prominent domestic regions to jointly develop high-quality gift sets, systematically managing production history, cultivation environments, and harvesting standards. This year, for the first time, Select Farm has been expanded overseas, raising the standard for premium gift sets even further.
The Chachoengsao region in Thailand is renowned for its mangoes, which are known for their rich aroma and high sugar content thanks to significant temperature differences and well-drained soil. Shinsegae worked closely with local expert farms to design every step, from variety selection and cultivation methods to the timing of harvest. As a result, the company succeeded in delivering a smooth texture and deep flavor, as well as establishing a product management system that ensures consistent quality year after year.
The core of this mango gift set is 'ripeness control.' Shinsegae strictly selected only mangoes that have reached 85% ripeness, which is considered the optimal stage for flavor. Initial tests for sugar and acidity are conducted at the source, and a cold chain system is used throughout the combined air and sea logistics process to maintain consistent temperature and humidity, ensuring that customers enjoy the mangoes at their peak flavor upon purchase.
Through these efforts, Shinsegae Department Store is offering two types of premium Thai mango gift sets for this Lunar New Year. The main products include the 'Shinsegae Thai Mango Set' (6 pieces, 75,000 won), featuring golden flesh and a rich aroma, and the 'Shinsegae Apple · Pear · Thai Mango Set' (9 pieces, 110,000 won), which combines apples from Yesan, Chungbuk and pears from Geumseong Farm in Hwaseong-both Select Farm products from Korea.
Choi Wonjun, Executive Director of Food and Lifestyle at Shinsegae Department Store, stated, "This year’s holiday gift sets are focused on delivering products to customers at their most delicious state," adding, "We will continue to raise the standard for holiday gifts by offering transparent and trustworthy premium foods sourced from both domestic and international regions."
