"Promoting Safety and Health Support Activities Reflecting On-Site Needs"
Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sangkeun) was once again certified last year as an excellent company for win-win cooperation in safety and health.
The authority announced on January 13 that it was finally selected as an outstanding workplace for the 2025 "Large and Small Business Safety and Health Win-Win Cooperation Project," organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, on January 9.
The Large and Small Business Safety and Health Win-Win Cooperation Project is a government-supported initiative in which large enterprises and public institutions act as parent companies, forming consortia with partner companies and local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to voluntarily carry out safety and health improvement activities.
Under this structure, the parent company transfers on-site safety management technology and experience, while the government provides partial financial support. The focus is on enhancing SMEs' capabilities to prevent industrial accidents and bridging the gap in working environments.
Reflecting the high-risk nature of port operations, Busan Port Authority has continuously promoted effective, field-oriented safety and health support activities for partner companies and local SMEs. In 2025, the authority carried out intensive safety and health cooperation activities for six SMEs located in the hinterland of the New Port, establishing risk assessment systems and providing consulting on improving work processes related to musculoskeletal disorders.
Additionally, the authority has operated worker-centered programs such as outdoor worker protection campaigns during heat waves, safety and health education for industrial accident prevention, and support for safety equipment and protective gear tailored to on-site conditions. These efforts to foster a safety culture at the workplace were evaluated as key factors in this year's selection.
Through the safety and health win-win cooperation project, Busan Port Authority has set the following as key future priorities: continuously strengthening the on-site safety capabilities of partner companies, expanding participation to local SMEs that have not yet joined, and furthering social responsibility and ESG management practices. The authority plans to accelerate the prevention of serious industrial accidents and the establishment of a safety culture throughout the port industry.
Song Sangkeun, President of Busan Port Authority, emphasized, "Since the port is a space where many stakeholders and workers come together, special attention to safety management is essential. Through continued participation in win-win cooperation projects, we will actively support partner companies and local SMEs at Busan Port in developing their own safety management capabilities, and we will work to create a people-centered, safe Busan Port."
Busan Port Authority plans to hold a signing ceremony for the 2026 safety and health win-win cooperation project with government and participating company representatives in February.
