Gyeonggi Province Corporation and Hwaseong City Environmental Foundation Sign MOU for Customized Operation of Climate Action Opportunity Income

On January 13, Gyeonggi Province Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding with the Hwaseong City Environmental Foundation at the Pangyo Startup Campus in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, to promote climate action opportunity income and establish a platform for Hwaseong City.

The memorandum of understanding was prepared to build and activate a dedicated participatory climate action opportunity income platform for Hwaseong City, in collaboration between Gyeonggi Province Corporation and the Hwaseong City Environmental Foundation. The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Jaejun, CEO of Gyeonggi Province Corporation, Jeong Seungho, CEO of Hwaseong City Environmental Foundation, and about 10 other participants.


'Climate Action Opportunity Income' is one of the key policies of the 8th popularly elected Gyeonggi Province administration, providing evaluation and rewards for activities that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in daily life. Since last year, Gyeonggi Province has been recording residents' carbon reduction activities through a dedicated app and offering rewards in the form of local currency. To date, the cumulative number of registered members has reached 1.76 million.


Through the memorandum of understanding, Gyeonggi Province Corporation and the Hwaseong City Environmental Foundation will expand and operate the climate action opportunity income mobile app to be tailored for Hwaseong City. Based on the existing Gyeonggi Province climate action opportunity income application, they plan to introduce new carbon reduction activities specific to Hwaseong City. The five customized activities for Hwaseong City are: ▲support for the use of reusable containers, ▲support for the use of shopping bags, ▲operation of eco-roads, ▲activation of recycling centers, and ▲support for zero-waste stores.


Lee Jaejun, CEO of Gyeonggi Province Corporation, stated, "Climate Action Opportunity Income is at the forefront of Gyeonggi Province's eco-friendly policies, and we are doing our best to achieve carbon neutrality together with residents. Beginning with this memorandum of understanding with Hwaseong City, we will introduce more customized operations in various regions to facilitate more efficient carbon reduction activities."
