Haenam County received high marks for significantly increasing newly certified areas by diversifying crop types and creating eco-friendly agricultural complexes using reclaimed land.
According to the county, last year Haenam County’s certified eco-friendly agricultural area reached 4,940 hectares, the largest in the country. Of this, 2,496 hectares were organic and 2,444 hectares were pesticide-free, marking an increase of 476 hectares compared to the previous year. In the field of low-carbon agriculture, the county also achieved the nation’s largest certified area at 1,089 hectares.
Haenam County has reduced the production burden on farmers and established a stable management foundation through the organization and clustering of eco-friendly agriculture. Moving beyond rice-centered cultivation, the county expanded certification to 98 items including fruits and vegetables. As a result, 2,339 hectares, accounting for 47% of the total certified area, were converted to fruits, vegetables, and other crops, achieving qualitative growth in local agriculture.
Achievements were also made in the individual category. In the livestock sector, Lee Hangrim from Haenam-eup received the top prize in recognition of his efforts in practicing eco-friendly and low-carbon livestock farming.
A county official stated, "This award is the result of the efforts of farmers who have practiced eco-friendly agriculture and the continued support from the administration. We will continue to expand support so that eco-friendly agriculture can be stably established in the field, and strive for the production of safe food and the sustainable development of agriculture."
