Mayor Baek Seonghyun: "Nonsan's Future Must Be Proven Through Results"

Baek Seonghyun, Mayor of Nonsan, stated, "The future of Nonsan is no longer on a blueprint," adding, "It must be proven through results that citizens can truly feel."

At the '2026 Major Work Plan Briefing' held on January 12, Mayor Baek said, "The path Nonsan must take is clear. Elevating the value of Nonsan, increasing citizens' income, and expanding the population through quality jobs are the three main goals we must achieve. Now is the time to answer citizens not with plans, but with results."

Approximately 70 participants, including senior city officials and department heads, attended the briefing to review the key projects and major issues of the 8th popularly elected administration.

After each department's report, Mayor Baek examined the direction and feasibility of the projects, focusing not on simple schedule management but on achieving tangible outcomes.

In particular, the following mid- to long-term growth engine projects for Nonsan were intensively discussed: the 2027 Nonsan World Strawberry Industry Expo, designation as a Defense Industry Innovation Cluster, and the early activation of the National Defense Industrial Complex.

Mayor Baek emphasized, "The strawberry industry is the core pillar that will elevate Nonsan's agriculture into an industry, and the defense industry and national industrial complex are turning points that will transform jobs and the urban structure of Nonsan. We must push forward without the slightest setback."

Regarding the regeneration of the old downtown and improvements to residential conditions, he said, "If citizens do not actually feel a change, the policy cannot be considered a success."

On aligning with central government and Chungnam Province policies, he stressed, "We must confidently demand revisions and improvements to policies that do not fit Nonsan's reality. It is the duty of public officials to organically connect national and regional policies with Nonsan's development strategy."
