Gangwon Office of Education Establishes and Operates "High School Credit System Support Center"
The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education announced on January 13 that it has established the "High School Credit System Support Center" on January 1 to enhance the effective implementation of the comprehensive adoption of the high school credit system, and has begun full-scale operations.
The High School Credit System Support Center is a dedicated support organization established in accordance with Article 48-2 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and the Ministry of Education's improvement measures for the operation of the high school credit system. It was created to systematically support schools in implementing the high school credit system and to guarantee students' rights to choose courses based on their career paths and aptitudes.
The High School Credit System Support Center is located within the Secondary Education Division (6th floor) of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education. It is staffed with one superintendent (center director), two supervisors, and one general administrative officer, forming a team of professionals that provides comprehensive support for all aspects of the high school credit system.
The center is responsible for establishing a support system for the Gangwon-style high school credit system, expanding students' course selection rights, supporting personalized career and academic planning for students, ensuring guidance to guarantee minimum achievement standards, operating training programs to strengthen teachers’ competencies, and enhancing promotional activities about the high school credit system for students and parents.
In particular, the center will strengthen support for curricula that are difficult for individual schools to operate alone, such as joint education programs, online joint education programs, out-of-school education, and high school-university credit recognition courses. This is expected to help bridge educational gaps in the Gangwon region based on local circumstances.
Additionally, the support center plans to expand information provision for students and parents through the "Gangwon High School Credit System Support Center website" and to improve on-site understanding by operating high school credit system expos and information sessions.
Kim Seongrae, Head of the Secondary Education Division, stated, "The establishment of the High School Credit System Support Center is an important foundation for moving toward education that is responsible for each student's choices and growth," adding, "We will continue to provide thorough support to ensure that schools can stably operate the high school credit system."
