Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province has moved to strengthen safety management at winter festival venues. On January 13, the county announced that, led by Deputy Governor Kim Miseong, an on-site safety inspection was conducted at local winter festival sites on January 12 to prevent accidents among tourists.

This winter, two festivals are being held in Gapyeong County: the "2026 Eobi Valley Winter Wonderland" in Gail 2-ri, Seorak-myeon (from December 20, 2025, to February 19, 2026), and the "Daeseong-ri Singsing Festival" in Daeseong 3-ri, Cheongpyeong-myeon (from January 3 to February 28, 2026).

The county scheduled this inspection to coincide with the winter vacation season for students. As word has spread that these two festivals offer winter experiences suitable for children and families, the county conducted on-site inspections to identify potential hazards in advance and prevent safety accidents at the venues.

The inspection focused on ensuring the availability of shelters from the cold and measures to prevent slipping accidents along visitor pathways. The county also checked various disaster and accident preparedness items at the festival sites, including the freezing condition at the ice fishing experience area, the condition and spacing of holes for ice fishing, and the removal of fire hazards from festival booths. Any issues identified during the inspection were addressed promptly by the festival organizers.

Deputy Governor Kim Miseong stated, "Festivals held on ice can lead to serious accidents if safety incidents occur, which is why we conducted this on-site inspection. We will do our utmost to ensure that tourists visiting Gapyeong for winter events can enjoy the festivals safely through thorough safety management."

Gapyeong County also announced that it will continue to take strong measures, including the cancellation of festivals, if hazardous factors at winter festival sites that could lead to major safety accidents are not addressed.
