Tuition Support to Reduce Private Education Costs
The Pyeongchang Talent Development Scholarship Foundation (Chairman Shim Jaeguk) will begin recruiting participants for the "2026 Native Speaker Online English Course" from January 14 to January 28, in an effort to provide a high-quality language learning environment that overcomes the geographical limitations of rural areas.

This program is an educational support initiative designed to supplement and expand the educational environment in rural areas, where learning infrastructure such as language institutes is lacking, through an online education system. The foundation aims to bridge the educational gap between urban and rural students and reduce the burden of private education expenses on parents.
Eligible applicants are students who will be in grades 4 through 9 at elementary and middle schools in Pyeongchang County in the 2026 academic year. Selected students will be able to meet with verified native English-speaking instructors in real time using personal computers or mobile devices.
Unlike conventional online lectures, this program features personalized one-on-one lessons tailored to each student's English proficiency, assessed in advance. Students can converse with native speakers via video, receive immediate feedback, reduce their fear of English, and improve their practical communication skills.
The foundation will subsidize up to 90% of tuition fees to ease the financial burden, and plans to provide full tuition support or further reduce self-payment ratios for socially disadvantaged groups, such as students from low-income families, depending on their category, thereby ensuring equal educational opportunities.
Secretary General Lee Hyunjin stated, "Children's learning opportunities should not be limited simply because they live in rural areas," adding, "We hope that this Native Speaker Online English Program will instill confidence in students regarding English and provide tangible support in alleviating parents' educational expenses."
