Professor Youngmok Kim of the Department of Food Science and Engineering at Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) has been inaugurated as the 38th President of the Korean Society of Fisheries and Sciences. His term will run for one year, from January to December 2026.
Professor Kim is a leading expert in fisheries science research and academic activities in Korea. Established in 1955, the Korean Society of Fisheries and Sciences is the country’s representative academic organization, spearheading research and technological advancement across the entire spectrum of fisheries and marine sciences. With over 800 members, the society publishes the Korean-language journal 'Journal of the Korean Society of Fisheries and Sciences' and the English-language journal 'Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences,' both of which serve as major platforms for domestic and international researchers to present their key findings.
In his inaugural address, President Kim identified the expansion of the society’s role in leading the future of fisheries science, strengthening international cooperation, and increasing support for young researchers and field experts as core priorities. He plans to enhance the society’s academic influence by broadening international academic exchanges and reinforcing academic programs that connect the field and academia.
President Kim emphasized, "Fisheries and marine science and technology are crucial for responding to climate change, preserving marine ecosystems, and managing sustainable fisheries resources," adding, "The society will actively strive not only for academic contributions but also for the creation of social value."
