The police stated on January 12 that they had requested the appearance of Harold Rogers, the acting head of Coupang Korea, but he did not comply.
Park Jeongbo, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, said at a regular press briefing that day, "He did not respond to the first request, and a second request has been made." Regarding whether an overseas travel ban would be imposed on Acting Head Rogers, he said, "It is still under review."
The police stated, "After analyzing the seized items, we believe that the amount of leaked data is much greater than the 3,000 cases announced by Coupang. We will be able to provide the exact scale once the analysis is complete."
The police are currently conducting a detailed analysis of the materials submitted by Coupang through its own internal investigation. During this process, they are also investigating whether there are any charges of destruction of evidence or obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means, after receiving a formal complaint.
The police are cooperating with Interpol in order to apprehend the Chinese suspect believed to be involved in the leak.
The police are also expediting their investigation into the "violation of data preservation order" case, which was referred by the Ministry of Science and ICT, and have already completed questioning the relevant parties.
The police are also conducting a legal review regarding suspicions related to CCTV footage and possible destruction of evidence at the time of the death of the late Jang Deokjun.
