Hwaseong City to Open 'Bongdam Wau Library' on January 19

A Complex Cultural Space Featuring Both a Public Library and a Youth Cultural Center

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on January 12 that it will officially open the Bongdam Wau Library, which was built within Haeoreum Park in Waori, Bongdam-eup, on January 19.


Bongdam Wau Library is a complex cultural space with one basement floor and three above-ground floors, covering a total floor area of 4,473 square meters. The first and second floors serve as a public library, while the third floor houses the Bongdam Youth Cultural Center.

The library is designed not only as a space for borrowing and reading books, but also as a venue for a wide variety of cultural activities and communication.


The public library is equipped with a general materials room and an infant and children's materials room, an 'Interactive Wall' that supports media experiences, and a 'Digital Gallery' where visitors can appreciate art using moving masterpieces.


In particular, the Bongdam Youth Cultural Center, in connection with the library, is a space that supports the growth of young people in an environment where learning and culture are integrated. It consists of a play zone, dance practice room, club room, student self-governance activity room, and a nature play yard.


On the day of the opening, the city will host a variety of commemorative events, including an opening ceremony, a stamp tour, a prize draw, "My Bongdam in Photos," self-guided space experiences, and a bubble & balloon magic show. Until February 6, a range of programs commemorating the opening, such as exhibitions, hands-on activities, performances, and lectures, will continue to be held.


The library will also offer ongoing programs such as a coloring experience throughout the entire space, the "Slow Mailbox," exhibitions of citizen-created works, and original picture book illustrations. In addition, age-specific programs will be available, including puppet shows, book sports challenges, music experiences, robot making, dance special classes, creating books with artificial intelligence (AI), and video content production classes.


Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong, stated, "We will ensure the smooth opening of the library so that it can become a comfortable space for all generations, including youth."
