Nationwide Contest for New Party Name
Party Color Change Also Under Review
The People Power Party has officially begun the process of changing its party name, with plans to complete the procedure before the Lunar New Year. It has been more than five years since the party last changed its name from the United Future Party to the People Power Party in September 2020.
On January 12, at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Jeong Heeyong, Secretary-General of the People Power Party, announced, "After gathering opinions from all full party members regarding the name change, 68.19% expressed support." He explained that out of 774,000 full party members, the response rate was 25.24%, and among them, 133,000 members supported the name change.

Under the leadership of Seo Jiyeong, Head of Public Relations, the People Power Party plans to hold a public contest for the new party name, allowing participation from all citizens. Based on the contest results, the party will conduct an expert review and complete the renaming process before the Lunar New Year. Along with the name change, the party is also comprehensively considering changes to its official color, which is currently red. On January 7, party leader Jang Donghyuk held a press conference to announce official measures for party reform, including an official apology for the December 3 Martial Law and the plan to change the party name.
Park Sunghoon, Chief Spokesperson for the People Power Party, met with reporters after the Supreme Council meeting and stated, "Many people have suggested that the party color should be changed, but I understand that slightly more party members do not want this." He added, "We will make a decision after comprehensive consideration." He continued, "We will strive to find a party name that can showcase the party's identity and best embody conservative values."
