DS Danseok Signs MOU on MMRs with US Nano Nuclear Energy

DS Danseok, a resource recycling energy company, announced on January 12 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the domestic introduction and strategic cooperation of micro modular reactors (MMRs) with Nano Nuclear Energy (NNE), a next-generation reactor development company listed on the NASDAQ in the United States.

This initiative aims to establish a mutual cooperation system between DS Danseok and NNE for the development and commercialization of MMR technology, and to explore business opportunities in the domestic market based on this partnership. MMRs are attracting attention as a future energy source due to their ease of installation compared to large-scale reactors, higher safety, and efficient operation as distributed power sources.

Through the agreement, the two companies plan to build a cooperative framework for the overall commercialization of MMRs, focusing on discovering MMR-based business models applicable to Korean industrial sites, as well as ▲ technical review ▲ collaboration on regulatory approvals ▲ supply chain integration. In addition, they will examine the phased introduction of MMRs in line with changes in the domestic regulatory environment.

The partnership between NNE and DS Danseok is regarded as the first collaboration between a global company possessing original MMR technology and a domestic company equipped with energy industry networks and manufacturing capabilities. DS Danseok will be responsible for business execution and will materialize its 'One Factory One MMR' vision, in which each factory is powered by a single MMR.

James, CEO of NNE, stated, "DS Danseok is a company with a deep understanding of the Korean industrial sector and strong capabilities in the energy business. By jointly reviewing the domestic application of MMR technology, we aim to develop an optimized business model and create a meaningful success story."

Han Seungwook, Chairman of DS Danseok, commented, "This agreement with Nano Nuclear Energy, a leader in next-generation reactor technology, will mark an important turning point in realizing carbon-neutral solutions." He added, "Following the establishment of cooperative frameworks last year with the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Central Research Institute and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology, we will combine global nuclear power technology to gradually expand a carbon-free energy system based on MMRs."

NNE, which was listed on NASDAQ in May 2024, is a global leader in MMRs, focusing on the development of mobile, on-demand small modular reactors that are differentiated from conventional nuclear power plants.
