On January 11, Assemblymen Kang Deukgu (re-elected, Anyang Manan), Lee Seongyun (first-term, Jeonbuk Jeonju-eul), and Moon Jungbok (re-elected, Gyeonggi Siheung-gap) were elected as the new Supreme Council members of the Democratic Party of Korea. Assemblyman Lee Geuntae (first-term, Gyeonggi Bucheon-byeong), who was considered a pro-Lee Jae-myung candidate, finished in fourth place and was not elected.

The Democratic Party announced that the three assemblymen were elected as Supreme Council members in the by-election held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building on this day.

This Supreme Council election was conducted with a 50-50 weighting between votes from central committee members and party members with voting rights.

In the central committee vote, Assemblyman Kang Deukgu received 375 votes (34.28%), Assemblywoman Moon Jungbok received 293 votes (26.78%), Assemblyman Lee Geuntae received 245 votes (22.39%), and Assemblyman Lee Seongyun received 181 votes (16.54%). However, in the party members' vote, Assemblyman Lee Seongyun took first place with 312,724 votes (32.9%), followed by Assemblyman Kang Deukgu with 258,537 votes (27.2%), Assemblywoman Moon Jungbok with 200,773 votes (21.12%), and Assemblyman Lee Geuntae with 178,572 votes (18.79%), resulting in a reversal in rankings.

After combining the results from both the central committee and party members' votes, Assemblyman Kang Deukgu had 30.74%, Assemblyman Lee Seongyun had 24.72%, Assemblywoman Moon Jungbok had 23.95%, and Assemblyman Lee Geuntae had 20.59%.

This Supreme Council by-election drew attention because it featured two pro-Lee Jae-myung candidates (Kang Deukgu and Lee Geuntae) and two pro-Jeong Cheongrae candidates (Lee Seongyun and Moon Jungbok), with only one candidate failing to be elected. As a result, the outcome is expected to strengthen the influence of the pro-Jeong Cheongrae faction, which holds party leadership, within the Supreme Council.

After the election results were announced, Assemblyman Kang Deukgu stated, "With Party Leader Jeong Cheongrae at the center, we will unite our efforts to ensure the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration, achieve a thorough liquidation of rebellion, and secure an overwhelming victory for the Democratic Party in the June 3 local elections. Through this local election, we will make sure to decisively clear out the People Power Party."

Assemblyman Lee Seongyun also pledged, "I will keep in mind the calls from party members for the liquidation of rebellion, victory in the local elections, the demand for an investigation into Cho Hee-dae, and for the party, government, and presidential office to act as one team to create a new Republic of Korea."

Assemblywoman Moon Jungbok expressed her gratitude, saying, "I sincerely thank all party members nationwide. I believe the way to repay you is to ensure the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration through the strong unity of the Jeong Cheongrae leadership."

Assemblyman Lee Geuntae, who was not elected, remarked, "If there is any task assigned by the party, I will take it on and do my best. Thank you."

Party Leader Jeong Cheongrae stated, "During elections, we compete fiercely, but it is competition within the Democratic Party. We have all worked toward the single goal of the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration and victory in the June 3 local elections. We will win the June 3 local elections and, for the success of the Lee Jaemyung administration, we will play as one team and speak with one voice."
